Taylor is a Titans third-round receiver, and Ferguson is the lone quarterback on the team’s 12-man list of undrafted free agents, made official Thursday.
With Marcus Mariota, Matt Cassel and Alex Tanney in place as the team's top three quarterbacks, the Titans didn't draft a signal-caller, and Tennessee doesn't rank as a top destination for an undrafted one looking for a good opportunity.
Ferguson threw very little in college.
While at Penn State in 2013, he played in four games, completing 10 of 15 passes for 155 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He was at Louisville in 2015 but didn't play. And in 2016 at Western Kentucky, he played in nine games, hitting on 19 of 41 passes for 234 yards, three TDs and no interceptions.
Minicamp will also include a number of tryout players, a list of which the team has not yet shared. There could well be a second quarterback in that group who will work through the weekend.
But Taylor might be in position to make the biggest first impression at a camp that doesn’t feature a thrower expected to be in the league when the regular season starts.
Ferguson’s familiarity with a player who’s in line to start out working as a slot receiver should be mutually beneficial.
And we'll see if Corey Davis, the receiver who was the fifth pick overall, is able to make anyone throwing to him look good.
